According to NCFR.org, "family life education focuses on healthy family functioning within a family systems perspective and provides a primarily preventive approach." The primary way that the National Council on Family Relations chooses to approach a preventative strategy is by delineating ten different content areas which Family Life Educators need to be experts in. These areas are listed out under my professional portfolio on this site. Having an understanding of these areas is crucial because they cover the gamut of family life. As family life and human service professionals, we must know which areas of family life need to be addressed in the lives of our clients. Having this knowledge is crucial because many families find themselves weaker in some areas and stronger in others. Our job as human service professionals is to provide holistic care, and this means having a well-rounded understanding of what it means to be an individual who is part of a larger family system. Here are the content areas. Each contains a link to the page that serves as my "certificate of expertise" for each area. Enjoy!
